The Neuroscience of Spell Crafting

Hey there, sinners!

It’s Adam Nox, and welcome to another episode of The Cult of You.

Spells, curses, magic rituals—much of it sounds quite superstitious, let’s be honest. In fact, the idea that a spell can just solve your problem seems quite ridiculous to many today. And honestly, it is. The idea that there’s this one little spell or one little ritual that’s going to solve all your problems is wishful thinking. It demonstrates a number of psychological issues that should be addressed before any success in magic can happen.

But let’s dive deep into the subject of spells and spell crafting. Instead of just looking at it from the esoteric or spiritual frameworks, let’s look at the neuroscience behind it. Let’s explore whether it is superstition or super science.  Sit back, relax, and enjoy today’s episode, and remember to live deliciously.

“True magic lies in the transformation of your inner world, creating profound changes in your external reality.”

“The power of rituals is in their ability to rewire our brains, making the impossible possible.”

Keys Insights and takeways
  • Misconceptions about Magic: Spells and rituals are often misunderstood as superstitions. The real magic involves deeper psychological and neurological processes.
  • Symbolism and Rituals: Rituals are powerful because they involve symbolism, sacrifice, and a journey that transforms the practitioner’s state of mind and neural associations.
  • Neuroscience of Magic: Magic works by rewiring the brain’s associations and behaviors, making desired outcomes more achievable through altered mental states.
  • Holistic Approach: Occult science includes art, science, psychology, neuroscience, and philosophy. It’s a practical system that integrates multiple disciplines.
  • Self-Transformation: The true power of magic lies in self-transformation, changing one’s internal world to influence the external reality.
  • Role of Archetypes: Archetypes and symbolic representations play a crucial role in spell crafting and rituals, impacting the practitioner’s psyche and behavior.
  • Collective Patterns: Similar gods and archetypes across different traditions indicate shared unconscious patterns and universal truths.
  • Balance in Practice: Effective magic requires a balance between intellectual understanding and practical application, integrating both mystical and scientific approaches

“Occult science is a holistic blend of art, psychology, and spirituality, guiding us towards self-mastery.”

“Symbols and archetypes are keys to unlocking deeper states of consciousness and personal power.”

I think we all sometimes get amused when we look at different forums and see newbies, and sometimes even the not-so-newbies, asking for spells and quick rituals to fix their problems. This really demonstrates someone in an emotionally tense state, desperate for a solution they see outside of themselves. Funny how that very factor is going to prevent the magic from working.

Let’s look at this seriously for a moment. Why do spells work, and why are they the way they are? If you pick up a book on Slavic magic, for example, you may find spells to curse your enemies, attract love, prevent things, and all kinds of stuff. There is an array in every tradition. But let’s take that as an example.

In one example, you may wish to bring luck or joy into your life. You may take a coin and spring water, keep the coin in the water, and put a blessing on it over the moon when the moon is at a certain tone. You will then use that water in a certain magical way. Another example may be where you take the same coin or coins, go to the back of a church, throw them onto the wall of the church while saying a certain petition to a certain saint. You even see those practices in folklore and practices of people who honor various Catholic saints. You see the same practice carried over in hoodoo. That may extend even further. You may see examples of candle magic routines and things like that.

Each practice, each technique, each spell, each ritual, and each ceremony has different elements. To imagine covering every instance and explaining it all in a single episode is ridiculous. In fact, that’s why there are courses like mine at The Cult of You. There’s a lot of data, information, and aspects we need to master to fully understand what’s going on with this occult science. The term “occult” means secret, and “science” here should not be assumed to be the same as modern empirical science. Empirical science is definite and testable, but occult science plays in a field that includes domains of study that cannot currently be measured by traditional science alone. It also expands into other avenues.

There may be aspects we can verify in psychological experiments, and things we know are true from tests within our framework. But there’s a paradigm here that’s useful, and this is the idea inside the hologram, inside the VR mask. Science itself tries to solve the riddle of the universe, but doing so inside the VR mask makes it subjective. It’s like a video game. If you’re playing Grand Theft Auto or Hellblade, you’re restricted to the rules of the game. However, there’s a programmer behind it who sets up those rules. If those rules weren’t in place, the game would turn out very differently. The probabilities or possibilities would be different, and it’s all because of how it’s been set up. So, we assume science operates from within this place and can’t see outside of it because it’s subject to it. Hopefully, math and other sciences, which are also common in the occult world, will take us further and give us the ability to research and accomplish things at a greater level. These are studies in the area of consciousness research that are now coming to the forefront.

Subjects like string theory and many others explore these other things from a mathematical and theoretical perspective. But many of these experiments give us results. Without jumping too much into the latest research and science, let’s look specifically at our subject, which is spell crafting and the neurology of it. Why do I even bring these two together? For most people, spells seem to be an esoteric, taboo science that witches had, like they were graced by the devil.

Am I saying there are no supernatural forces? That’s a subject for another episode. What I am saying is simple. I use this example often in my old classes when I used to teach publicly, and I call it PTD Egyptian. If you’re from another country, that name may sound foreign to you. It’s just a common term used here for some names in South Africa. The idea is that PTD falls in love. Harry is just hanging out in ancient Cairo, and he sees Susan or Sunny, and he says, “Yo, Sunny, you look cute.” He’s nervous because Sunny is from a richer family. She has all these things going for her. She’s really hot by his standards, and he’s nervous. So, he goes and makes a petition to the sun god Ra.

As he does, there’s a certain set of things that happen. Let’s look at this from the outside. PTD goes into the ritual, makes a journey along the Nile, and finds these very sacred herbs or stones important to the sun god. He does it, and he comes back after this journey where he was hungry and went through quite an effort to attain them. He comes back to his sacred temple or space, waits until the sun is at its zenith, and knows the god is watching over him and blessing him. He goes in, whispers the secret names he was taught in his initiations, goes into a trance, says these things, and puts the stones there. He makes the offerings and sees his spell, which rhymes and follows a unique pattern like a song. There’s an intro, a chorus, and a bridge, and it builds with a specific pattern. At the end, he exhausts himself, releases the energy, maybe cuts his hand and spills blood over the offering, practices sex magic, releases himself through intoxicated dance, or feels accepted. Maybe he sees the god come down and accept the offering, and he knows his prayer is answered.

The next day, he goes out, feeling good, and approaches Sunny. They start a conversation, and weeks later, they’re together. Things are going great. From the outside, it looks like PTD’s great ability as an Egyptian sorcerer got what he wanted. What happens in the rest of the journey will be left for TV shows to answer.

Now, let’s look at this from a neuro-scientific point of view and other disciplines. Remember, occult science is holistic, including art, science, physics, neuroscience, psychology, psychiatry, and philosophical systems. It’s a practical, test-repeat-alter system to get the results you want.

Firstly, was the sun god Ra real or not? Maybe, maybe not. But what happened is important. PTD grew up in a narrative where there was an authority that gave crops power, light to the world, and expelled darkness. He sang praises in emotional euphoric states, saw others preach, and got into a self-induced hypnotic state. He linked the symbol of Ra to the sun, images, and emotions. This force became independent of his problems. Meeting a girl might be a big deal for him, but not for the sun god who controls the world.

He goes on a hero’s journey, sacrificing comfort and doubt, finding sacred items, and aligning himself with the ultimate authority. He enters a sacred circle, wearing robes of a priest, and changes states in his brain, associating with the divine self. He performs the ritual, symbolically representing himself and Sunny, and says the rhyme that affirms the new reality. In a deep trance, he cuts his hand, releasing blood and energy, symbolizing a payment and exchange. He burns the items, offering them to the god, feeling worthy and accepted.

The next day, he wakes up, feeling confident and powerful. He approaches Sunny, and things go well. He’s changed his neural association at a fundamental level, unlocking new states and resources within himself, making him more capable of getting what he wants.

Here’s an important thing to recognize: when we look at people, the way the energy we’re emitting to them, the vibe we’re sending out, is the direct result of how we represent them, the world, and ourselves. If you look at someone with fear, that’s the form it’s going to take. If you project potential, joy, or positivity, that’s what it will take. Everything in reality is a quantum field of potential.

In doing so, PTD takes the symbolism of himself, and the other person, and as he does this, he starts to say his prayer in rhyme. In his brain, there’s a symbol of what he wants, and he’s actively changing these symbols. This is very common in magic, like how war generals play the war out in advance with chess pieces, involving the gods with this divine authority inside making it happen. The puppet play we see in practices like hoodoo and voodoo are other examples.

He takes the symbolism of himself and Sunny, and links them together, saying the rhyme that affirms the new reality. In a deep trance, he cuts his hand, releasing blood and energy, symbolizing a payment and exchange. He burns the items, offering them to the god, feeling worthy and accepted. The psyche takes that massive emotional catharsis and rewires the relationship happening between these two people inside his internal world.

The next day, he wakes up from this intense ceremonial process, goes and thanks the god for his blessings, and steps outside to see the sun shining. Remember, the sun is a symbol in his nervous system representing these things, so the sun shining must be proof. This increases his sense of evidence and certainty about his success.

What he’s done in this process is eliminated all doubts, all disbeliefs. Now he walks down and sees Sunny. He’s no longer hesitant or doubtful; he’s feeling confident and good. He’s accessed powerful states of possibility for their future and bypassed his own limitations. When he approaches Sunny, he’s already successful. He’s emitting that aura of confidence and energy she wants to know more about. She’s curious about the change in PTD. He’s demonstrating behaviors necessary for success in relationships and dating—he’s not needy, he’s showing himself as a leader, he’s confident, he’s powerful, and he’s demonstrating his personality because he’s changed the neural association at a fundamental level.

This is important to recognize. It’s not just the neuroscience; there’s more. Truth is fundamental at multiple levels. Quantum mechanical philosophies understand entanglement, indicating that when you change, the world changes. The moment you change, the vibration you’re sending out to the world and what is possible inside your world also changes. Yes, these things are true at a psychological, behavioral, and social level, but that’s only one dimension. There are far more dimensions beneath the iceberg that need to be explored and mastered before you can truly call yourself an adept.

This is why spell crafting alone was always considered simply an art of lower magic versus higher magic being a form of dharma theory or miracle working. In this state, we align ourselves with the gods because there’s a reason why the same type of gods show up in every tradition. Even though they look different or act different, they’re so similar. Think of it for a moment: why is there always a goddess of love in every tradition, a god of prosperity? These are connected to the planets. Why do these patterns consistently repeat themselves? Why do the goddesses in different pantheons have the same exact colors and attributes? It’s because the unconscious and collective unconscious have specific patterns and rules that constantly map throughout the different years. Mystics and spiritual gurus have met these patterns, but not everyone utilizes them. Some just use them in intellectual spaces.

This is where we recognize the difference between the mystic and the magician. The mystic goes in like the prophet and finds these altered states and gains insights, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they use them. The magician goes and practically uses these things to bring about changes in their world. We are at a stage in our society and evolution where left and right, good and bad, light and dark are dissolving. This is the purpose of the work—the non-dualistic approach, the disillusion of duality. In so doing, we must recognize that even the mystic and the magi must come together as hybrid gods. One component of us is divine, and another is disaster. We need both. We need the sin and the solution to the sin. We need the art and the science. We need the masculine and the feminine. We need to enjoy the delicate dance between art and science. We need to understand the relationship between the supernatural and the natural to truly advance and bring about new probabilities, new experiences, new levels of thinking, and creations of reality.

Yes, this is a generalization to a very specific field. There is so much more we can explore and discuss. To really go in-depth, remember that occult science is extensive. At the time of this recording, the content available in The Cult of You is over a hundred modules, over a hundred weeks worth of material, and it’s still growing. How many other pieces of material are out there? How many other research systems and groups are there?

The true mastery of this is a renaissance mastery. Many of the goethic entities govern over the liberal arts. Mastery over the liberal arts leads to a greater understanding and mastery of magic. This is where the divide came between low magic and high magic. The low magic practitioners and pagans of the land worked for them without understanding the science behind it, making it superstitious and inconsistent. The adepts of high magic, who scholarly studied this, could get more consistent results. But not all did. This spectrum—being top-heavy on experience versus being top-heavy on education—means that actual power works in the middle. It doesn’t help to be purely intellectual or purely obsessed.

When I understood the neuroscience and quantum science behind this stuff, making it work was a challenge. It was all science, and I had to make it real again. You must go from understanding the representational systems and meanings within you to realizing the deity is real. Once you do, you open up to another level of probabilities.

I’m not here to tell you these things are real or not. If you listen to the conversation with DH Thorn, the concept of whether you are real is another debate. Be curious about these things, about the mechanisms behind them, and understand why they persisted as long as they did. If there was no merit behind any of them, they would have been weeded out of existence by now. It’s simply how survival mechanisms work.
